Frederic Seiller, vice president of retail operations in Greater China, a German sporting goods manufacturer (Adidas AG) (ADSG.DE: quotes) said on Thursday that the number of Adidas stores in China will increase to 6300 by 2010, and that it is currently more than 4000.

Seiller said Adidas's business in China was totally unaffected by the global economic slowdown, and the company remained optimistic about the prospects of China's sports apparel market.

In June this year, Adidas's largest flagship store in the world was located in Sanlitun, Beijing, covering an area of 3170 square meters.

Seiller said that by 2010, Adidas's annual sales in China are expected to reach 1 billion euros.

But he declined to disclose the current turnover.

Adidas has opened stores in China in the past three years at a speed of three per day, aiming to surpass Nike (NKE.N: market) and become the leader of China's sporting goods market.

Adidas will continue to expand its stores in China, but its expansion in big cities will slow down.

"We will continue to open stores because there is still much room for development."

Seiller added.
