In May, Macao'S Consumer Price Index Of Clothing Rose By 5.55%
According to the data of Macao Bureau of Statistics and Census, the comprehensive consumer price index (104.06) in May 2010 increased by 2.76% year on year, mainly driven by the rising prices of food, non-alcoholic drinks and transportation.
The major categories with significant increases include transportation (+6.60%), miscellaneous goods and services (+5.66%), clothing (+5.55%) and food and non-alcoholic drinks (+4.94%), mainly including unleaded gasoline, automobiles, gold ornaments, men and women
On the other hand, in addition to the 9.81% drop in the price index of education, the price index of mobile phone service charges for ordering communications fell 3.53% over the same period in 2009.
In addition, the consumer price index of Class A (103.61) and Class B (104.24) increased by 2.15% and 2.97% respectively from May 2009.
In May 2010, the comprehensive consumer price index rose 0.37% month on month, with clothing (+3.16%) and recreation and culture (+0.96%) rising significantly, which was mainly caused by the rising prices of men's and women's clothing and outbound tour fees. On the other hand, the price of gasoline and mobile phones fell, causing the price index of transportation and communication to fall by 1.52% and 0.14% month on month.
The average comprehensive consumer price index in the first five months of 2010 increased by 1.97% compared with the same period of 2009; In the 12 months ended May 2010, the average comprehensive consumer price index rose 0.83% compared with the previous period.
