According to the briefing, the free trade agreement between the People's Republic of China government and the Republic of Singapore government will be formally implemented in January 1, 2009.

With the full implementation of the free trade agreement between the two countries, bilateral free trade relations and economic and trade cooperation between China and Singapore will be promoted to a new height.

Singapore pledged to cancel all tariffs on imports from China in January 1, 2009. China is committed to zero tariffs on 87.5% of the newly imported products from January 1, 2009 and to 97.1% before January 1, 2012.

Singapore is the first Asian country to sign a comprehensive FTA with China.

The agreement also stipulates that if a product is completed in China or Singapore, if the 40% additional value is made, it will be the product of the country and enjoy a tax preference under the new China free trade agreement.
