Textile And Garment Export Volume

According to the data released by the General Administration of Customs in April 14th, affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the total foreign trade of goods in the whole country declined in the first quarter of 2020. According to the US dollar, the national foreign trade import and export amount was 943 billion 220 million US dollars, down 8.4% compared with the same period last year, of which exports declined by 13.3% and imports decreased by 2.9%.

In the first quarter of 2020, the total export volume of textiles and clothing in China amounted to US $45 billion 260 million, a decrease of 17.7% over the same period last year, of which 22 billion 690 million US dollars in textile exports, 14.6% in the same period last year, and 22 billion 570 million US dollars in clothing exports, down 20.6% over the same period last year.

From the perspective of the export of textile and clothing in the past years, the decline of China's textile and clothing exports even exceeded the 2009 after the outbreak of the financial crisis. According to statistics, in 2009, the export volume of the whole country decreased by 16%, and the export of textile and clothing decreased by 10.07%. In the first quarter of 2020, the export of goods and clothing decreased by 13.3%, and the export of textile and clothing dropped to 17.70%.

In 2020, the new crown pneumonia epidemic continued to spread, the global consumer demand declined, and the demand for alternative consumer goods was more significantly inhibited. Some customers in the US and European markets cancelled or postponed the import orders for textiles and clothing, which led to a decline in the export volume of textiles and clothing in one quarter of the year, which was higher than that of the overall trade in goods. In the export product structure, the scale of garment export is lower than the scale of textile export for the first time.
